There's a lot to consider - that's why we're here: Choosing the right model is crucial and will depend on quite a number of factors. These include your pool and its location, your heating expectations and your climate (just to name a few). Some major issues that determine the right model are listed below:
Pool Covering: Heating your pool effectively not only means pouring-in heat, it also means retaining that heat. The greatest single form of heat loss from a pool is actually through simple evaporation. A pool cover can reduce evaporation (and this type of heat loss) by up to 97%. "Solar" type pool cover boost heating further by collecting heat directly from the sun striking the cover.
Your Pool Size: A larger pool obviously require more heat to achieve a desired result. The link however between pool size and heater capacity required isn't however always obvious. Increasing the size of your pool doesn't always mean you need a larger heater. The same heater on a larger pool may be able to archive the same result by simply running longer each day.
Your Swimming & Temperature Preferences: We find clients vary enormously on this topic. While some pool owners consider 22 degrees C to very pleasant, others require the water to be at least 25 degrees C before even consider a swim. Another issue - do you plan to swim 9 or 12 months of the year? Some owner won't consider swimming in June, no matter how pleasant their pool's temperature..
Your Location and Climate: The role of climate actually a little more complex than just "how cold is your typical day in April". Firstly, different locations experience differing average humidity and this affects heater performance. Furthermore, solar exposure varies - for example, the winter sun in Brisbane still "strikes" most pools. A Melbourne pool on the other hand is likely to get little or no direct sun exposure.
Heat Modeling and Thermal Analysis - Picking the right model is unfortunately a little more complicated than getting a "quick opinion" from a salesperson. The only way to get an idea of how any heater will perform in your situation is to perform computer based modeling. Thankfully, Pool Express has already done most of the hard work for you.
